June 2: Rally

SAVE THE DATE: June 2, 2012

(Next to the Erie Community Library)

Encana Oil and Gas operations are expected to begin on May 26, 2012 at the well site between Erie and Red Hawk Elementary Schools.   Despite numerous letters (20,000+) and appeals from Erie Rising, other parents, celebrities, and politicians including Congressman Jared Polis, the company appears to put profits first.  Though they are legally entitled to drill this location, please join us as we voice our concerns regarding these activities. ***Erie Rising does not endorse any aggressive, offensive or unlawful actions! This is our community, filled with children and families. Thank you for your support and respect in this peaceful time to make our voices heard.

  1. Never say “Never too late!” There are future locations and future wells to fight. Our actions, our words, and the FACTS we are aware of set the precedent for future battles.

This situation has been on going for well over two years! Where was this concern when the residents of the Creekside Development were challenging Encana and the proposed drilling. It seems people only get involved when it is too late to do anything about it. This website should have been up in 2009 when Encana went to the Erie Board with this proposal. Good idea. Way too late to do anything about it.

I am in Longmont, and we have a site next to our Middle School that is contaminated with Benzene. The site wasn’t even fenced off at the time of the contamination, who knows how many dogs and children played there? The levels are at 80 times the legal allowed amount, this is AFTER the “mitigation”. The same company (Top Operating) is now proposing a site right next to that one and anywhere from 500 to 1000 feet away from Fall River Elementary School and Trail Ridge Middle School. I’m wondering when Encana speaks to the school board we can somehow co-ordinate efforts? We got a moratorium declared on oil/gas well permits for Longmont, but now we are working to do the same thing you are, get them to not allow it near our homes and schools. I urge you to go out to 119 east of county line road to see how large a small fracking pad site is. They are in the process of fracking those wells right now. It’s quite a large operation.
